LEGEND OF HANUMANITO:
There once was a farmer who had too much work. He went to the wiseman for advice.
"I am overwhelmed by work. I can't do it all!"
The wiseman procured a monkey. "Take this monkey,"; he said. "It will do everything you need."
"That's wonderful!" said the farmer.
"However!" said the wiseman. "If the monkey runs out of work, it will eat you alive."
The farmer took the monkey home. The monkey did everything perfectly -- but the monkey was so efficient that the farmer soon began to run out of work. He went to the wiseman again.
"The monkey is so smart & fast that soon I will have no work, and he will eat me alive!"
"Erect a pole," said the wiseman, "and when you have no work, tell the monkey to climb to the top of the pole. Tell him that when he gets to the top, he must climb down, and when he reaches bottom, he must climb up."
The farmer did as the wiseman said. He and his monkey lived together in perfect harmony, ever after.
And that is the story of how we came to have mantra: Mantra is the pole we erect in our minds, so that our monkeys will not eat us alive.
And for me and Hanumanito, The Hanumanito Sho is our pole.
